Fees
The Australian Psychological Society’s recommended fee rates for 2020-2021 are $260/hr. Manuka Psychology’s fee rates are $250/hr for private clients seeking clinical psychology services.
With a Better Access Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) initiated by a General Practitioner (GP) or relevant treating medical specialist a Medicare rebate of $128.40 is available for private clients for up to 20 sessions per calendar year (i.e. 2020, 2021). A MHCP is available for a range of issues (health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/mental-ba), with out of pocket costs per session thus reducing to $101.60/hr for eligible sessions.
Counselling services delivered by a health professional are GST free.
A 50% cancellation fee applies to sessions cancelled without 24 hrs notice.
Currently MHCP Medicare items are available for face to face services and for Telehealth video services, in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Private clients are requested to pay the full fee at commencement of their appointment and to then seek Medicare reimbursement for eligible sessions via the mygov App. Alternatively, a private health cover rebate may be preferred. Private clients must choose their preferred rebate pathway, as both cannot apply to the same session.
